A winery on the slopes of Etna, with a double goal: sell the winery's single label online, and convert international visitors into real guests for tastings. Palette and photography drawn directly from the volcanic landscape.

Located on the northern slopes of Etna with views over the Gulf of Taormina, Cantina Gambino combines a winemaking tradition rooted in volcanic terroir with hospitality that invites the journey. The brief from Carnova was twofold: build an e-commerce space for the winery's volcanic wines — its sole label — and simultaneously convey the physical experience of the place: vineyards at over 700 metres altitude, the scents of lava rock, tastings with the volcano as backdrop, to convert international visitors into real guests.
I took full creative direction of the graphic design, building an interface that allowed the beauty of the vineyards and volcanic rock to breathe. The colour palette was derived directly from the landscape: warm, earthy tones echoing solidified lava, autumnal vineyards, basalt stone — with accents evoking the ruby of the wine. Editorial typography, in a serif/sans-serif pairing, guides the user through what needed to feel like a narrative tour, not a product sheet.
The UX architecture for the tasting booking flow was carefully structured: the journey from the winery's story to the discovery of food and wine packages through to the booking request needed to be fluid and natural — like following the Gambino family narrative without ever feeling the friction of a commercial transaction. The site speaks two languages and addresses an international audience seeking authentic wine experiences beyond conventional tourism circuits.
All the design was declined and engineered on the WordPress platform. My work focused on building dynamic and high-performance layouts, capable of hosting high-resolution photographs without compromising loading speed.
I carefully laid out every section — from the bottle shop to the estate presentation pages — guaranteeing an impeccable and responsive visual experience on every device, allowing the company to communicate its prestige on a global scale.
The result is a bilingual site that guides visitors from the winery's story to a booking request without ever feeling like a hard sell. The client recognised in the site a positioning coherent with the wine's premium level.
